The Grief of a Child — A Lesson for Us All

I recently attended a funeral. Funerals are never easy. But in the middle of the sadness, I witnessed something powerful — a reminder from a child.

A little girl, maybe 3 or 4 years old, said goodbye to her grandpa. As she was held by a family member, she began to cry, calling out, “Papa.” She didn’t hold back. She didn’t care who was watching. She simply felt.

We often try to stay strong, to keep it together. But children remind us that letting grief out is healing. Tears are not weakness — they are love overflowing.

At Blessings for Barrett, we believe in honoring grief in all forms. May we all be brave enough to grieve like a child: openly, honestly, and without apology.
